About us

Our turf

Founder Bob Stevenson was cutting and delivering turf before the second world war. In 1939 lack of demand and fuel rationing brought turfing activities to a halt. After the war he established the family operated business in 1951.

Little did he realise that this would be handed down over four generations (so far), and develop into a large company covering central and southern England, the Channel Islands and the Isle of Wight.

Our company is now being operated by the third and fourth generations of this same family. We have evolved to a grand scale with an equally grand service. We base our service, as we always have, on our customers.

We pride ourselves on our friendliness, relationships with our customers and the quality of our product.

Also important to us is contributing to the local community where we can. We have helped local charity, The Rowans hospice, since 1994. In 2009, we helped to turf some of their grounds. Read the article from the Rowans magazine [opens in a new window].

Our service now incorporates 300 acres with irrigation ability from our own lakes. We employ 14 members of staff (85% still family members) and run 5 lorries, 3 turf harvesters and various tractors for turf preparation and maintenance.
